Our Lady of the Assumption

The first pastor of this church was Reverend Edmund Quinn. Due to an accident or health failure he became incapacitated and was unable to fulfill his duties, but his brother, Reverend James Quinn, was called upon to assume religious duties at the Chapel.

Father Edward J. Dunphy was called to take charge in 1852. At this time, the church was complete on the exterior; however, it was not so complete on the inside. He had pews installed in 1854 which were rented and provided an annual revenue of $740.00 which was used for further improvements to the Chapel.

The tower displayed in the photo on the left wasn't erected until 1855. The cost of the improvements summed $855.00 which was raised through a summer picnic. The picnic was held on August 15th of that year on grounds owned by Timothy McCarthey. The day was described as being "gloriously fine" and was a "complete success."

During 1954, repainting and redecorating of the interior of Assumption Church took place.
