In 1899 the Boer War took much from the city's
hockey program. The contests that did happen from 1899 to 1902 were held to
local competition, each year of the conflict had the Mohawks as champions.

Another good year for
hockey for Saint John was 1903. It saw the formation of the New Brunswick
Hockey League. The league included teams from Marysville, Saint John, St.
Stephen, and Fredericton. In 1905 the Moncton Victorias joined the New
Brunswick league and began to dominate the league. In 1910 the Maritime
Professional League was formed and the the Victorias dominated that league as
well. Although Saint John did not enter this league, it is a point of interest
to know that New Brunswick had a team that played for the Stanley Cup. The
Stanley Cup you ask? Yes the Stanley Cup. In 1912 the Victorias played Quebec
from the old National Hockey Association. Although they put up a valiant
effort, they lost the series 9-3 and 8-0.
