The Uniform

The Royal Stewart Tartan The Jervis Bay (Memorial) Pipe Band wears a kilt made from the Royal Stewart Tartan, which is the most well-known of all Scottish tartans. The Royal Stewart is not only the tartan of the Royal House of Stewart, but is also the personal tartan of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Because clansmen wear the tartan of their chief, all subjects of the Queen wear the Royal Stewart tartan. The kilt looks a bit like a skirt, but don't ever say that to someone who wears a kilt. Also, never ask them what they are wearing under it . . . you may not want to know. Above the kilt, the pipers wear a white shirt and black necktie under a black dress jacket.

There are many accessories to the uniform as well. These include white socks with green trim and "Scots Guards" red flashes, or garters, black shoes called brogues, and a black rain cape for those damp days on the competition field.

A Glenngary A sporran The band also wears a fur sporran. The sporran is the little "purse" that hangs over the front of the kilt. The "crowning" touch to the whole ensemble is the Glengarry cap. This is a wedge-shaped cap with the band's official cap badge clipped to the front. The badge consists of the Royal Canadian Legion badge mounted on the St. Andrew's Cross.

As you can see, the uniform looks pretty impressive when it is all together as seen on this piper.
