There was certainly no lack of
opportunities in Lancaster back in the early 50's. One small trucking business
was started back in 1922 by a Fairville man by the name of George Chittick.
George's business continued to expand beyond his one man, one truck operation.
He eventually got into projects that involved excavating, pile driving and
concrete work for the tidal dry dock constructed at the east side of the
harbour in 1941. A few years later the Chittick Ready Mixed Concrete plant was
opened on Chesley street.
