The people of Lancaster
took pride in their new city. As observed by A. R. Jones:
"...Lancaster citizens are determined to move forward, and to make this
community a model of progressive and efficient government." About
the new city the mayor said, "Let us hope and pray that there is much good
in store for our new City, and the road over which we must make our way will
lead us to build a progressive and prosperous City."
The many provincial institutions of
Lancaster gave the citizens great pride. There was the Provincial Hospital
which had been a landmark of Lancaster since the 1800s. The Lancaster Hospital
for Veterans, the Ridgewood Health and Occupational Centre, and the New
Brunswick Protestant Orphans' Home were all located within the boundaries of
Lancaster.
