The City of Lancaster was just like any
other city; it was prone to disaster. In May of 1922, there was a fire which
devastated much of Lancaster. Both of these pictures of the fire were taken of
Main Street. It destroyed the Driscoll Store and much of Lancaster.
As a direct result of the fire of
1922, two fire stations were built. The first was constructed in 1923; the
second was finished in 1930. Both buildings are still standing. The station on
the left is a barber shop; the other, a private residence.
These are the same buildings
today. The 1923 fire station is now a beauty salon. Someone is now living in
the place which was once the 1930 fire station.
