The Royalty of England have visited the
area known as Lancaster on several memorable occasions. Here is a picture of
King George and Queen Elizabeth in 1939. The mayor of Saint John, D. L.
McLaren, is greeting them at the Fairville Train Station as the crowd watches
them in awe.
Earlier that day, the staff and veterans of the
Lancaster Military gathered outside of their facility. Many in beds and full
uniform, they waited patiently for the King and Queen to greet them. When the
Royal Couple finally came upon the D. V. A. Hospital, they did not stop because
of a "technical error". The veterans and staff were not happy.
Because of the error, during all future visits the Royalty made sure to visit
our veterans.
Here are Queen Elizabeth
and Prince Phillip visiting the D. V. A. Hospital in 1959. The man on the left
is Bert Huestis, the mayor at the time.
