Malcolm made a special deal with American
Motors to sell 3,000 V-8 engines. The engines were being developed for use in a
sports car to challenge the Chevrolet Corvette. When Malcolm was looking for a
plant in late 1972 the Quebec government was approached. At first they were
interested, but Jean de Villers recommended that Quebec turn down the offer
because Malcolm was a recognized promoter.
After the negotiations with Quebec collapsed they attempted to interest the New
Brunswick government. At first the Federal Department of Regional Economic
Expansion and the New Brunswick government declined to bite. But after
negotiations progressed Bricklin had secured about $20-million from the Federal
and the New Brunswick governments.
